About Abruzzi
The
humble shepherds of the area were conquered by the Romans, and
from the 2nd century B.C the region was called Samnium. In the
dark Middle Ages it was renamed Aprutium as part of the kingdom
of Frederick II of Swabia. It's current name "Abruzzi",
comes from the devision of the territory by the French Bourbon
administration.
